Although Fontes has only 800 inhabitants it has all the essentials. A bakery, butchery, pharmacy, two hair dressers, tabac (newspapers and magazines etc) bar, winery (huge), two doctors, general grocery, post office and a lovely old church.

The market comes to Fontes on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Fontes is buried in the famous Midi wine growing area, with vineyards surrounding the entire village. In fact winegrowing is the main occupation. It is situated on the sun drenched flanks of the Cevenne Hills.

It is a pretty and very friendly village with a “bonjour” in the street being rewarded by a big smile.  Fontes is a genuine working village rather than a tourist village, featuring an equal amount of tractors and cars.
